The Museo di Storia Naturale di Venezia Giancarlo Ligabue is housed in the historic Fondaco dei Turchi, a 13th-century Venetian-Byzantine building overlooking the Grand Canal. Established in 1923, the museum offers a comprehensive journey through natural history, featuring extensive collections in zoology, paleontology, and ethnography. Highlights include the dinosaur skeleton of Ouranosaurus nigeriensis and a rich array of fossils, taxidermy specimens, and botanical exhibits. The museum also emphasizes the biodiversity of the Venetian lagoon, providing insights into the region's unique ecosystems.
Opening Hours:
- Tuesday to Sunday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (last admission at 4:00 PM)
- Closed on Mondays, December 25th, January 1st, and May 1st.
Ticket Prices:
- Full Price: €10.00
- Reduced Price: €7.50
- Available for children aged 6 to 14, students aged 15 to 25, visitors over 65, personnel of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBAC), holders of the Rolling Venice Card, and holders of the International Student Identity Card (ISIC).
- Free Admission: Children aged 0 to 5, residents and those born in the Municipality of Venice, ICOM members, individuals with disabilities and their companions, licensed tour guides in Italy accompanying groups or individual visitors, for every group of at least 15 people (one free entry, only in case of pre-purchase), accompanying teachers of school groups (up to a maximum of 2 per group), volunteers of the Civil Service of the Municipality of Venice, ordinary MUVE partners, holders of the MUVE Friend Card, members of the "Friends of Venetian Museums and Monuments" association, holders of the Art Pass Venice Foundation, and holders of the Membership Card of the Venetian Heritage Foundation (valid for two people).
